About Me

My name is Ryan C. Torres, and I’ve always been seeking ways to learn new ways to write my thoughts down. Throughout my life in the Rio Grande Valley, I was constantly feeding my mind with more information I wanted to learn beyond what we had to know/care about. I started to grow a fascination towards telling a story, the way it should be told. Now that I’m finally pursuing my career choice at Texas State University.

I started most of my education (or my life) when I moved down to South Texas around 2008 from Pearsall, TX, where I gradually worked up through was accepted into the Mercedes Early College Academy. The academy allowed me to take dual-credit courses with the joint-college that we were a part of (South Texas College). From there, I was still involved in marching band throughout my 4-year high school career, played varsity tennis for two, and was the Historian for our National Honor Society. Along with handling extracurricular activities and studying for college courses, I graduated with a 3.5 GPA and my high school diploma, with an associate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College.

My time here at Texas State University has been less than a year, but I’ve done plenty of work outside of classes to make sure I’m using my time wisely, and by my choice. I’m currently studying Journalism and Mass Communications with the Living-Learning community on campus. I was also a Life & Arts reporter for our on-campus newspaper, The University Star, for the entire first semester leading into spring. I’m also a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. I plan to graduate c/o 2020!

The 1975 is also my favorite band, ever. If there’s anything worth spending time on, it’s giving yourself a try. Which is what they’ve all taught me as a fan, and will be something I carry with me forever.
